Blockport (short for “Blockchain portal”) is an end-to-end trading platform for cryptocurrencies. With a focus on increasing liquidity, security, transparency, usability and education, it enables anyone to take part in this exciting new space.

Challenge

Building a product at high speed, while establishing credibility and trust.

Blockport’s founders saw a great opportunity to meet the growing demand for an easy-to-use cryptocurrency trading platform. They started doing research into decentralized exchange models and put together a white paper detailing their roadmap. The white paper would set the foundation for a very successful Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

They raised 1 million Euro worth of Ethereum within 3 minutes in its ICO pre-sale and followed up with a crowd sale later that year, bringing their total amount raised to 12 million Euro worth of Etherium. With funding in the bag and 15,000 people waiting to use the platform, the founding team was eager to release a Beta version of the product. Yet, they faced several challenges, including strict guidelines and regulations.

At the same time, they had to nurture trust among early adopters by having airtight security. It was difficult also to set up a development team with enough experience to launch a product in record time to meet their roadmap deadlines. With Squads’ help, Blockport was able to set up and later scale their development team to 15 full-time developers and 20 freelancers.

Solution

We helped to set up a microservices architecture to scale the system at a high pace, several layers of security from the get-go, Event Sourcing to make the system more robust and easy to migrate, and Acceptance Test Automation to speed up the release of new features. Our squads also provided help with front-end development to make the platform extra user friendly.

Impact

Blockport was able to release the Beta version of the platform within 4 months. They have a robust technical infrastructure and a strong security foundation to scale. Their focus on quality makes them a reliable partner for aspiring and experienced traders to venture into the cryptocurrency market.
